Charles Rowland was born on 14/10/1887 in Bramford, Suffolk. He emigrated to Australia in 1908 to live and work in Kyogle, New South Wales (on border with Queensland – not far from Brisbane). He joined the 42nd Battalion of the Australian Infantry Forces in 1916 and was shipped back to France where he was killed in action in Armentieres, France on 14/02/1917. He is buried in a war grave there. He is commemorated in the Shrine of Remembrance, Anzac Square, Brisbane, Australia, which we had the honour to visit this year.
