Denis came from Derry. He previously worked as a labourer before joining the Army. He was married to Lizzie and they had two daughters, Florence and Eileen. As a member of the BEF and as a soldier in the Royal Inniskilling Fusilliers,he was killed at the First Battle of Ypres attacking the bridge at the village of Le Gheer. His body was never recovered and he is remembered on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
