William was one of two brothers killed in the Royal Navy during World War I. Frank was killed when HM S Bulwark was destroyed off Sheerness in a terrible accident on 26th November, 1914. I can not imagine what it was like for the family to lose 2 men. Their sister, Alice, was my great grandmother. Her husband had been in the Royal Navy before the war and they were married in St Ann's church in Portsmouth Dockyard. My grandfather was 12 when William died. He served in the Grenadier Guards in the 1920s and later became an air raid warden in Portsmouth Dockyard during World War 2.
