Joen Vicotr Elserkin was born in Islio in Ketering in 3rd May 1887. He was the fourth son of William Elderkin & Katherine George. John joined the RFA on 5 September 1914. he was Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant  in Kanuary 1915. He served in Egypt & Galliopli before being sent to France qin 1916 where he took part in the Battle of the Somme and died at the Medical Dressing Station 23 September from Wounds recieved in Battle, His Colnel described him as "a beautiful character, loyal, keen & clever, his best trait being his coolness" A brother  officer  - "A good oficer and friend, a cheerful companion. Brave hard working and a sterling Officer.
