I read extracts of this young man's letters home to his parents,sister Helen and younger brother Herbert in a very moving book, A War in Words. He was a farmer's son who enlisted in July 1915 in Canada sailed to the UK for 6 mths training, sailed to France Feb 1917 and died within a month of arriving at the Front Line,having bravely taken part in the Vimy Ridge offensive 8th April 1917.
