Alfred Bantock was born in 1889 to Frederick and Harriett Emily in London. He grew up in Flexistowe, Suffolk with his parents and 3 brothers, William, Edward and Victor, and 1 sister May. 

At the outbreak of the war, he was working with his brothers as an Insurance Clerk in Leyton, Essex, and enlisted in Walthamstow. By July 1915, already a Lance Corporal with the 1/7th Battalion Essex Regiment, he sailed for Gallipoli, via the island of Lemnos, landing in Suvla Bay on 12th August 1915. 

On 27 August, he was wounded in action and died as a result. He was exhumed after the war and buried at Hill 10 Cemetery, in Gallipoli. 

Following his death, his brother Edward enlisted with the Royal Garrison Artillery and fought in France from May 1917 until the end of the war before being discharge with deafness.
