John Park was from the village of New Cumnock, Ayrshire,Scotland. He was employed as a delivery boy with a local business. John and his fellow delivery boy,William Sharp, joined up together. They were with the 9th Btn. Highland Light Infantry (The Glasgow Highlanders) John and William both were killed on 15th July 1916 in the battle for High Wood part of the battle of the Somme. Neither John or William has a known grave and both are commemorated on the Thiepval memorial to the missing.
