Private James Field He was born on 22nd November 1884 in Baldock in Hertfordshire. His parents were James Field Senior and Mary Swain. They lived in Norton in Hertfordshire. He was a drayman by trade. On 10th February 1912, he married May Matilda West and lived at 6 Calefonia, Baldock, Hertfordshire. He joined the 2nd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment of the Army in December 1914. His service number was 18331. He fought in the First World War where he died of his wounds on 10th June 1917, aged 31. He is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery in Belgium. He is Plot 14, Row G, Grave 9. I have his Soldiers’ Small Book and medal which says “He died for freedom and honour”. I also have his red identity disk which is hand stamped with his surname, initials, service number, regiment and religion.
