George Ballard was the second of ten children born to Wilson James Ballard & Sarah Ann neé Watton; husband of Lydia neé Handcocks. Born in Inkberrow, Worcestershire in 1883. George was a career soldier who enlisted with the Worcestershire Regiment in 1902. He served 12 years with the colours serving at home as well as in Bermuda, Barbados, Malta & Egypt & was transferred to the reseves in February 1914. George was remobilized & disembarked in Gallipoli on 27th June 1915. George was killed in action on 6th August 1915. His brother Albert Edward Ballard died on 9th October 1918.
