Edgar Arthur Gerard Private Edgar Arthur Gerard Le Blancq G/17949, 12th Battalion, The Royal Sussex Regiment. 39th Division. He was killed in action during the attack on the Schwaben Redoubt near Thiepval on 17 October 1916, aged 21. He had previously served in the Balkans in the Gallipoli campaign. He was the son of Philip & Isabel Le Blancq (Tailors) of Guernsey and was born in St. Saviours, Jersey on 31 July 1894. The family had lived in Jersey for many generations and several generations were tailors. He had an elder brother Leonard (my grandfather) who also served in WW1 and survived. He already in the island militia when he enlisted in Worthing. Edgar has no known grave and is commemorated on The Thiepval memorial and in Rolls of Honour in Chichester Cathedral and on Jersey.
