Born in Bisley (Glos.) on 31st December 1895, the son of Thomas & Jane. Later emigrated to Canada & joined the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on 12th January 1915. Sailed for France in October 1915, & took part in the Battle of the Somme from August 1916 until his death the following month. Local newspaper indicated he was killed by a shell. His effects were left to his sister, Beatrice Cox, of Wells Road, Bisley. Commemorated on the Bisley War Memorial as Pte. James Clarke.
