Reginald Percy Gunning was born in Montpellier, Brisol in 1891, the son of Edward James D. Gunning, a clerk in the Inland Revenue, and Jessie nee Spackman. Reginald, like his father, became an Inland Revenue Clerk, and married Marion Kate Rice in 1914. He enlisted at Clifton, Bristol, served in 'A' Battery, 50th Brigage, Royal Field Artillery, died of wounds, and is buried at Kezelberg Military Cemetery. A year before his death, his only child Roy Gunning also died.
