Harold Hoyle was a teacher at Aldershot County School. He joined the 11th (Reserve) Battalion of the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment on 14th August 1915. He joined this Battalion in Bellericay Essex and served as a Second Lieutenant. He was killed in action on 23rd July 1916 in the area of Bazenton-Le-Petit. This was during the Battle of the Somme. He is buried in Caterpillar Cemetery Longueval France.
