Private Woodward was the only son of Frederick Woodward of Pleasley. He was a clerk at Mansfield Corporation Surveyors office and a member of St Michaels church choir. He enlisted during September 1916. On August 2nd 1917 he was severely wounded in the head and never regained consciousness, dying 2 days later. He was 19 years of age.
