Charles was born in Tutbury, Staffordshire. Husband of Edith and Father to Phyllis. Lived in Bolton. Loyal North Lancashire regiment. Died 8th June 1917. Buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery. Awarded Italian Bronze Medal at La Boisselle. Charles was injured and hospitalised at the First Eastern Military Hospital in Cambridge. He then returned to fight again but was shot in the chest and died at 9.55pm on June 8th, the second day of the Battle of Messines with the 19th (Western) Division.
