John died of wounds and is buried at the same cemetery as his youngest brother James Laidlaw. The middle brother Thomas, survived the Battle of the Somme and the war and died in 1939 in Newcastle. They are all remembered by Thomas's son John, grand-daughters Estelle and Nicola, and great- grandsons Samuel, Freddie, George and Henry.
