Sydney Morley Evans. Killed in action 18th September 1918. Aged 36. He left behind a wife and a son. Fought in Europe with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, taking part in the battle of Mametz wood where he was wounded with a gunshot wound to the thigh and bayonet wound to the hand. After recovering from his wounds and some leave home, he rejoined the fight. On the 20th of November 1916 he arrived in Salonika to take part in the war in the Balkans. In 1918 the British launched a major offensive to end the war in the region. The battles around lake Doiran and the assaults on the heavily fortified mountains cost a lot of lives and it was in these battles that Sydney Morley Evans was killed. He is remembered with the others who lost their lives but have no proper grave on the Doiran Memorial.
