GREAT UNCLE JOSEPH DAWSON KAY Junior 1896 - 1915. Son of Mr Joseph Dawson KAY Senior (Royal Naval Reserves) and Mrs Emma KAY. There's nobody left alive who knew him personally, but his memory has been passed down from generation to generation, and will continue to do so. His grave has been visited. The War Diary for his Regiment has been purchased and he wasn't killed in a great battle and had only arrived there about a month prior to his death. He and two others were blown up by an enemy mine which exploded under the trench they were in. One was killed outright. Uncle Joe died of wounds next day. Born 21 July 1896, Scarborough, North Riding of Yorkshire, he was employed as a Brick Cutter before going off to War. He had previously looked after his elderly widowed Grandad who died 3 years after Uncle Joe aged 79. Uncle Joe was engaged to be married and his Fiancee was so much in love with him that she never, ever married anyone else. Twenty three years after his death, one of Uncle Joe's cousins holidayed in Scarborough and visited his Aunt, (Uncle Joe's Mam) taking with him his 5 year old son who Uncle Joe's Mam (my Great Gran) had never seen. Upon seeing her 5 year old Great Nephew, Uncle Joe's Mam, then in her late 60s, burst into tears for the little chap was the double of Uncle Joe when he was 5. Before returning home, Uncle Joe's cousin had the little chap's photo taken, for my Great Gran, at a Studio. Uncle Joe had written to his parents prior to his death but which wasn't received till afterwards. His Mam treasured it. Night Night God Bless, Uncle Joe. Lots of Love, Lulu.
