My Great Uncle Percy was a young man who worked with horses on a local farm. He served with 1st Battalion Essex Regiment and enlisted April 1917 and was killed on 30th November 1917, in the first battle that tanks were used in Cambrai in France. He was fatally wounded and was shortly buried where he died. Afterwards the regiment had to retreat and leave him buried there. Consequently his body was never recovered to be bought home to his family. Now he is recorded as missing and his name is on a plaque at the Louverval Memorial in France. His name is also on the family headstone along with his mother and father as a tribute to him being such a lovely son. I would so love to go to the memorial in France one day to pay my respects to that lovely man that I never got to know because he died aged 23 yrs fighting for all of us. May he rest in peace. X
