Samuel  was actually born as Silvester Dale ( took older brothers  name. He was in 1896 in Thornum ,Middleton, Lancashire .At the start of the war he was in Macclesfield Cheshire with his Father David ,brother James and his family( The Dale family originally came from Great Warford Cheshire) moved to Lancashire to various farms in Castleton and Ashworth Heywood/ Bury
