Robert Wayne was born in Toxteth Park on the 22nd of October 1877 to John Wayne and Abigail (nee Redfern) Before he listed in the Army, Robert was living in Copperfield Street whilst working as a messenger and then carter for the railway. He signed up on the 24th of October 1915. On the 14th of May 1916 he was posted to the 27th Field Ambulance as a Private. Robert served as a stretcher bearer. On the 13th of April 1917 he was admitted to the field hospital with a shrapnel wound to his head (this was first diagnosed as a gunshot wound) he died 'of wounds' on the 17th of April 1917 aged 29.
