Great Uncle Joe was my Maternal Grandmother's Brother. He died of his War wounds in 1919, aged 21. After being a casualty he was taken to Cork Hospital in Ireland for treatment, from family recollections it was probably shrapnel wounds and with no antibiotics his condition worsened , he died in his home in Swindon on 8th March 1919. Despite his sacrifice he is on no memorial because he didn't fall during the "War years" . I think it would be appropriate to remember all who served during the War, all the boys took the same risk, just some were sadly taken and others survived and some suffered all their lives. We should remember them all with pride. My Grandmother (Joe's Sister) always kept a picture of him in a locket around her neck. She never forgot him, and neither shall I.
