My maternal great uncle who joined as one of the Barnsley Pals in 1915 and survived many battles before giving his life in 1918. Only discovered in 2006 when his memorial card was found in an old tin belonging to my grandmother (who married his brother). Although I already had his birth certificate, I did not know what had become of him as he had never been talked about. I have since stood at his grave in Belgium and he is remembered often now. I am proud to know his story and be related to him.
