Donald, we know that you were the second son of Donald and Jane Macdonald of Beauly and we also know that your father was the piermaster at Beauly. You had emigrated to Canada in 1908, but you answered the call by joining the 47th British Columbia Regiment, No 629503. We do not know the exact circumstances of your death, but we do know that it was most likely to the south of Ypres in the Battle of the Ancre. We read that at the end of October both British and Canadian troops had been fighting hand to hand near the Schwaben Redoubt, and on 11th November the eastern part of Regina trench was recovered and many Germans were taken prisoner. It would seem that you lost your life in this pitched battle, although your remains were not recovered. Since your two brothers, William and Kenneth also lost their lives, and your father was deceased, our most sincere condolences must go to your mother. Rest in Peace. Harry.
