Alexander, we know you were the son of Donald and Helen Macdonald of Easter Cudrish, though the family later moved to Aigas, so you were recorded on the Kilmorack War Memorial at the Toll. You served in the 5th Service Battalion of the Camerons, Service No S/11717, formed 1st September 1914, so we guess you were in the photograph of the 80 men parading behind the Cameron Pipe Band in the Square in Beauly. You went to France 10th May 1915, and took part in the Battle of Loos. It would seem most likely that you lost your life when the battalion attacked the enemy trench known as "Little Willie". In this fighting the battalion lost all but two officers and 70 men out of the 820 who began the attack. There had been heavy rain and the ground was very muddy. It must have been hell on earth for you infantrymen! You have our most sincere sympathy. Terry and Harry.
