William, we know that you were the son of John and Hannah Fraser, of Balvullick, 15 Torgormack, Kilmorack. We do not know when you emigrated to Australia. You enlisted at Melbourne 24th July 1915 and joined the 12/6th Battalion on 26 February 1916, but were transferred to the 1st Pioneer Battalion on 18th March after sailing from Melbourne on HMT Ceramic. After landing in Alexandria you sailed again on 26th March on the SS Ballarat to Marseilles, where you landed 26th July. On 2nd June you were appointed Lance Corporal. You received you last pay from Lieut Jenkins on 17th July and were reported as wounded and missing on 26th July. A Court of Enquiry on 18th August decided that you had been killed in action at Poziers on the morning of 26th July. We understand that when your effects were returned to your mother at Ballvullich after the war several items were missing, including your gold chain, sovereign case and locket. These were later returned by post to your mother in a parcel postmarked Cape Town 25th May 1923. Well William, you certainly earned your medals. Rest in Peace. Harry.
