Roderick, we know you were born in 1890, the son of Roderick and Margaret Maclean, and that your father was the general merchant in High Street, Beauly. We also know that you served in the 2nd Battalion, the Scots Guards, Service No 11024, and that you were awarded the DCM for distinguished conduct in the field. We presume that you were involved in defending the British positions near Bourlon Wood and in the recapture of the village of Bourlon and, after the Guards took the place of the Highland Territorials, you were then involved in the British counter attack to re-establish the line on the northern edge of the wood on the day you were killed in action.
