Coy. Q M Sergt. F S Marin, 8th Border Regiment, was killed in action in France on April 10, 1918. He came to St Bees School in 1901, with a George Moore Scholarship.  He was a keen football player, and was in the 1st XI 1904-05, he left in 1905. After leaving school he served his articles with Mr D M Pape, land surveyor, Keswick, and later was taken into partnership. In 1910 he qualified as a Professional Associate of the Surveyors’ Institution. Soon after war broke out he joined Kitchener’s Army as a Private, serving in the Border Regiment. He went to France in September 1915 as Quartermaster, and saw continuous fighting for nearly three years.
