I obviously never knew my Grandad, and my Mother hardly knew him either. She was born in 1913, and he went to war in 1914, and was posted as "missing and wounded" on 23rd March 1918. He was in 7th Bedfords, joined up in Fulham I believe. I have researched some history, and the 7th Bedfords took part in many of the Somme area battles throughout the Great War. I imagine he eventually died in the fighting around the the St Crozat Canal and Faillouel area. Whatever killed him, whether it was gunshot, grenade, shell or gas, I hope it was quick. How anyone survived that War I shall never know. No known grave, but he is commemorated with other 7th Bedford casualties on Panels 28/29 of the Pozieres Cemetery. I wish I had met him - Mum's stepdad, George Thwaites, who fought in the War and survived it, was a lovely chap, I'm sure my Grandad was the same. RIP Serjeant John Henry Morris 13722.
