Papers relating to Lt Beresford came into my possession by chance about 25 years ago. My researches then revealed that he served in the Inland Water Transport section of the RE, who in 1916 and 1917 ran supply barges between England and France, and maintained rail and water transport to the Western Front. He died at the section's depot at Dover, "of shell shock" according to a letter of the time from his widow to her daughter, his stepdaughter. I do not believe there to be any surviving family to remember him. It is my honour to do so.
