John, or Jack as he was known in the family, was actually only 16 when he died during the Battle of Loos. Four of his brothers also fought in the war. They all came home though one died in the 1920's due to the effect of being gassed three times. My Granddad, Jack's brother, was shot in the arm and leg and was also gassed causing him sight problems.
From reading Regimental diaries, it is likely that Jack died in the early morning attack on enemy lines on 25th September 1915. His body was never identified.
