Charles was born in Barnes, Surrey, England, on the 23rd of November 1895, the eldest son of Charles and Lizzie Kate Elton Dixon (nee Codd). Enlisted into the East Surrey Regiment on the 28th of January 1913. Posted to the B.E.F in France with the 1st Battalion East Surrey Regiment, disembarking on the 16th of August 1914. Wounded In Action on the 13th of October 1914, gunshot wound right hand, and was invalided home. An infection in the wound, saw that Charles had a finger amputated on the 30th of October 1914. Posted back to France on the 3rd of February 1916, this time posted to the 7th Battalion East Surrey Regiment serving with C Company. Appointed unpaid Lance Corporal on the 9th of April 1917. Missing In Action during the Battle of Arras on the 3rd of May 1917, Aged 21. L/Cpl Charles George Dixon is my Great Grand Uncle. His Father, my 2nd Great Grandfather, also Charles Dixon served with the 2nd Garrison Btn. Essex Regiment in India, where he died from influenza and pneumonia on the 25th November 1918.
