On 6 March 1917 Dorian was badly injured in an incident with a grenade which led to the death of one Private and injuries to two others. The records of a Court of Enquiry held at Arras state that Mr Sutthery “was seen to take a rifle grenade from the box and shaking it before putting it into the barrel of the rifle – he then screwed the detonator into the grenade. When he pulled the trigger the grenade exploded before leaving the rifle”. The Court concluded that Sutthery was not to blame for this accident. He was evacuated back to England and was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London where he died on 19th May 1917, a blood clot on his heart was blamed.
