Ernest Greenway Castle was born c1889 in Lee.

 He is commemorated at South Lee Baptist Church.

He enlisted 13 February 1908. His occupation was given as a brass finisher.  He was 5ft 4 ¾ inches tall and weighed 107lbs. he had grey eyes and brown hair. He had a sailor tattoo on his right arm and a flower with Ernest in scroll on his left arm. His character was said to be good. He was hospitalised from 8 October 1916 to 1 March 1917 with shell shock. It was noted that he had received no specialist treatment. His parents were James and Emma and he also listed his sister Cissie. They were living at Hither Green.

In 1911 he was in the army. He has 3 siblings and another 2 have already died. His parents were living at 14 Leahurst Road Lewisham  with their daughter Frances Esther. In 1901 he was living at 147, Ennersdale Road, Lewisham with his parents and sister Frances.In 1891 he was living at Weardale Road, Lee with his parents James and Emma and sisters Maude and Lilian.
