Henri Ernest John Gruselle worked in the Liverpool Victoria Life Fund Department at the London Head Office of the Commercial Union Assurance Company Ltd. According to company records he served initially in the Royal Fusiliers attached 1st/2ndBattalion as a Private and was sent to France on 27 October 1915. He also served in the 15th (County of London) Battalion (P.W.O. Civil Service Rifles)  and later joined the Queen’s Westminster Rifles 1st/13th Kensington Battalion as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was reported missing, later presumed killed in action. He was 32. His death was not confirmed until September 1918.
