Arthur Abraham Amis was born in 1875 in Potter Heigham, Norfolk, England and was the son of John Bensley Amis (1828-1911) and Emily Butler (1841-1891). Both his parents pre-deceased him. He worked as a farm labourer and in 1906 he married Mary Ann Burgess (1885-1959). They had two children: Alfred William in 1909 and Evangeline in 1911. Arthur was aboard the Royal Edward on his way to Gallipolli when it was torpedoed by UB-14 and sank off the island of Kandeloussa. A total of 864 individuals were lost according to the Admiralty casualty list. Mary Ann married again in 1917.
