From the Derbyshire Courier
News has been received at Newton by Mrs. Dudley, that her son. Pte. Ike Dudley, Sherwood Foresters, has been killed in action. He enlisted Oct. 1914. Saw service in the Dardanelles and Egypt, where had frost-bitten feet and mosquito bite, and afterwards served in France. The following letter has been received by Mrs. Dudley from Sergt. J. Fell: "I find it painful duty have to write to you concerning poor old Ike. I do not want to put you a about too much. He fell a victim of this terrible war on 29 October. It nearly broke my heart when I heard it. I went and had a look at him. He looked peaceful must have died without any pain. I cannot not express my feeling towards you. From one who will, if spared, explain things to you some day. He was thought of as one of the best in this battalion.'
