Before the War, Albert worked in the Art Department at Cambridge University Press, where he was serving his apprenticeship. Albert was 18 years old when he joined the Army in 1915. His first posting was to France but he was injured three months later. After he recovered, he served in Egypt and was transferred back to France the following year. Albert was out on a carrying party when he was ****ed instantly by a shell on 21 September 1918. He had risen to the position of corporal in ‘A’ Company, 15th Battalion Suffolk Regiment. There is a dedication to Albert on the memorial at Vis-en-Artois.
