Born in 1897 in Mottram, George Louis Delaunay was the middle child of three of Henry Anthony and Ellen Ann Delaunay. In childhood, Louis Delaunay lived at 74 Brosscroft, Hadfield; he attended St Charles RC Day and Sunday Schools and was an altar boy. By 1911 he was a lather boy for barber James Senior in Hadfield, and the family had moved to 43 Woolley Lane, Hollingworth.

Louis Delaunay enlisted in Glossop in June 1915.Lance Corporal Delaunay died on Saturday July 1st, 1916 aged 19, although it was March 1917 before his parents received official notification of his death. He is one of 72396 casualties remembered on the Thiepval memorial, Pier and Face II C; he is also remembered on Hollingworth War Memorial.
