Allan Kincaid Wilkie was born in Glasgow on the 25th May 1891. His father was James Wilkie, a joiner journeyman and his mother Annie Wilkie nee Brown. One of 8 children the family moved from Stirling - where the eldest James was born, c1887, to Glasgow where Maggie, c1890, Allan and William, c1894 were born, back to Stirling for the birth of Annie, c1896 before finally settling in Auchendrane, South Ayrshire. It was here that the youngest members of the family, Alexander, 1897, Robert, c1898 and Helen, c1906 were all born. By this time Allan's father was an Electrician for the private estate of Auchendrane. All the children attended the local Public school in Alloway. On leaving school Allan became a grocer's assistant but at some point the family returned to Glasgow. It was there that Allan joined the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment) and was assigned to the 12th Btn as a Private, Service Number 38748. He died of wounds on the 20th June 1917 just 3 days after his younger brother Alex had been killed in action. Like him Allan too died in France possibly as a result of the same battle that claimed his brother. He was 26yrs old. He is remembered with pride in Alloway.
