When my Great Grandfather was killed his wife, my Great Grandmother wrote a letter and this was answered. Dated the 27th August 1917, from the 53, casualty clearing station. In it it says that he was admitted to hospital late on the night of the 6th. Severely wounded in his right arm and slightly gassed and in a semi-conscious state. No message was left and he peacefully passed away on the morning of the 7th. His remains laid to rest in a military cemetry in this town of which the censor forbids me to mention, but in due coarse you will informed of the particulars. A christian service was carried out over the remains and a small cross with his paticulars placed on the grave. Rev H ? CF
