When John went to war his wife Florrie went home to look after her father and bachelor brothers, where she remained for the rest of her life. Family fable has it that she was working in the fields when she found out about John's death, and dropped to her knees. She never married again. She said she could only ever love one man.  I think of the future that was cruelly taken from you both. She had a memorial plaque placed in East Cottingwith Church, where she worshipped. Florrie was my great aunt. We think of you both and the sacrifice you made.
