Tommy was born in Bermondsey into a family of 7 and was a plumber. My grandmother said that one of his jobs was to light the street lamps at night. He joined up when his friends did even though he was under age and belonged to the Jamaica Road Pals. His sister Frances lived to be 103 and I was very happy to be able to visit his grave and take a photo together with a poppy from the battlefields to give to her. I wish I had met him but he will not be forgotten. I was very happy to have been able to visit his grave on 100th anniversary of his death. It was a beautiful high summer day, warm and bright and I sat on the grass next to the grave.
