The youngest of eight children born to  grocer Thomas Courtier & his wife Ellen nee Tippett,  Foster was born in Illogan Cornwall in 1883.  He grew up in Cornwall but, after leaving school,  he went to work as a Draper's Assistant in the London area where he eventually met & married Lily Mary Toder in 1915.  They didn't have any children. & , when he died, Lily was aged just 32. Three years later she  went to USA but eventually returned to UK & died in Epsom Hospital 7/7/1955.  She never re-married.
