Joseph Alfred Baldwin Dady worked for Norwich Union Fire Insurance Society Ltd. in the Norwich head office. He worked for the Society, in the Renewal Issue Section, from 1910. He served as a Rifleman  in the London Regiment (Queen Victoria’s Rifles) 1st/9th Battalion and was killed in action in Belgium.

His obituary in the Post Magazine says: “His death is much regretted by his colleagues." Company records say his father was a clerk at Millar's Butchers and that he had a brother who was badly wounded in the war. The sub manager wrote to his father: "Your son was very much liked in the office and will be greatly missed by his colleagues." He was 24.
