Private Smalley's battalion  were involved  on  the  Somme:  La  Boiselle  6th July  1916,  and  Bazentin  30th  July  1916.  The  ‘Soldiers  Died’  and  ‘Commonwealth  War  Graves  Commission’  are  at  variance  as  to the date of  death of Percy  Harold.
