Arthur was born on March 1st 1892 at 22 Court Charles Henry Street, Aston, Birmingham. In 1911 he worked as a gun action maker in Aston, Birmingham. He married Catherine Emma Ashmore (Kate) on April 20th 1913. They had two sons Stephen and Arthur.

He was a Lance Corporal in charge of a Lewis Gun Team, 2nd Battalion,  Royal Warwickshire Regiment in the Passchendaele Offensive 1917. On October 9th 1917 he was killed at a place called "Judge Copse". He was almost certainly buried soon after - but the grave was subsequently lost. He is remembered on the Stone Memorial at the huge cemetery at "Tyne Cot" in Belgium - and in the Book of Rememberance in the Hall of Memory in Birmingham. He was much loved and missed by his family.  A very frail letter exists written to Arthur's widow, on pages cut out of a cash register book. This was sent some years later by "a Welshman" who was there. He describes returning Arthur's watch with the letter.
