My grandfather, Pvt Harry Rule, drowned, age 41, when troopship SS Ivernia was torpedoed off Cape Matapan, Greece. He is remembered on the Mikra Memorial in Mikra British Cemetery in Greece. He took part in the Dardanelles campaign and served in Egypt and was home on leave in December 1916. Little did his wife and children know that they would never see him again. Pvt Rule was the son of the late John Rule, Inspector of Poor, Hawick. Remembered with love.
