William died on the last day of the Battle of Passchendaele when the forward dressing station he was being treated at took a direct hit from enemy artillery fire. He was engaged to be married to my Great Great Aunt Hannah Lloyd née Jenkins who I can just about remember as she died when I was aged 4 in 1964. William would have gone on to be my Great Great Uncle by marriage on my paternal grandmother's side of the family if he had survived the Great War. He is remembered on the wall panels at the Tyne Cot Commonwealth Cemetery in Passchendaele & also on the well kept war memorial monument in his small home village of Llangeitho in Ceredigion, West Wales. His sacrifice is still remembered a century after his passing.
