Trooper Mead was the son of Mrs Janet Mead - of Motupiko, Nelson District, South Island, New Zealand.

Robert Mead enlisted for war service - on 14 August 1914 - at Nelson, South Island, New Zealand.

At enlistment Robert Mead was posted as a Trooper, Canterbury Mounted Rifles Brigade, 10th (Nelson) Squadron, Main Body, NZEF.

On 16 October 1914 Trooper Mead left New Zealand for overseas war service - with the Main Body NZEF - aboard HMNZT Transport Ship either T4 'Tahiti' or T11 'Athenic' - from Port of Wellington, North Island, New Zealand.

On 4 December 1914 Trooper Mead disembarked - from his transport ship from New Zealand - at Alexandria, Egypt.

Trooper Mead served at Gallipoli, Turkey (1915).

Trooper Mead was medically evacuated, sick, from Gallipoli to Mudros, Greece.

Trooper Robert S. Mead died of sickness at sea - on 27 September 1915 - whilst being medically evacuated from Gallipoli, Turkey - to Mudros, Greece.

Trooper Robert S. Mead is buried at Portianos Military Cemetery, Lemnos, Greece (Grave ref: IV.A.195).
